The challenge
Park 20|20 is a joint development project of Delta Development Group, VolkerWessels and Reggeborgh Groep at Beukenhorst-Zuid business park in Hoofddorp. The innovative Park 20|20 concept integrates sustainable construction, a high-quality, inspiring public space and a new way of working based on the Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy of William McDonough. Copijn Tuin- en landschapsachitecten was asked to bolster the design team of McDonough and KOW Architecten for the development of the public space with an as-optimal-as-possible closed sustainability loop.
Our vision
Cradle-to-cradle demands thinking in terms of systems, in extensive research of materials and a broad perspective of the work environment. Economy, man and nature come into balance, resulting in a collective added benefit. The way water is used in the buildings and gardens plays a central role in the design.
The design
The area is for the most part a rooftop garden with an extension for a large retention pond. The sustainability loop of the water is one of the binding elements between the buildings and the environment and is implemented in such a way that the route that the water takes can be seen. A retention pond and the artificial wetland serve as connecting elements in the garden. The water from the retention pond is used for various purposes, such as the irrigation system, supplementation of other water features in the gardens as well as the flushing of toilets.
The result
An amazing rooftop garden that is in harmony with its surroundings and can be monitored remotely thanks to the different sensors. All of the maintenance of the irrigation system is carried out by HB Watertechnologie, thereby ensuring consistent quality.
